Biography
Stuart Gordon is a Senior Principal Research Scientist in CSIRO Agriculture and Food’s Systems Program where he leads projects that focus on crop production, quality and post-harvest management. Stuart has been involved in crop research, quality assurance and post-harvest manufacture for more than 30 years. He currently leads projects to develop sprayable biodegradable mulches for agriculture. His work covers formulation and application of new mulches made from crop residues, to measuring crop responses to mulch application.
Stuart also works closely with Australia’s fibre industries. Stuart was a Non-Executive Director of the Victorian Government’s International Fibre Centre between 2010 and 2016 has been active in raising the profile of Australian cotton, wool and industrial hemp production and processing. Prior to joining CSIRO, he worked as Technical Manager of Australia’s then largest cotton spinning company, Rocklea Spinning Mills. He holds wool and cotton classing certificates, a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science and a PhD from La Trobe University. Stuart is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
